Today we woke up to our first snow fall of the year. Yippee! My daughter Nicki had her snow pants on before I was out of bed. We tumbled out the door and were immediately drawn to the sounds of glee coming from a dozen children sliding down the street, hills and anything that was remotely slippery. After sledding down an easy 8 foot hill the gang was ready for a challenge. Off to the big hill we went – parents and all! We slid and stalled out, pushed each other, got stuck, shrieked, and laughed until someone almost got hurt (of course! how can it be sledding without a near miss?). Now Nicki is at a friend’s house sipping hot cocoa and I am here at my desk with this view. In addition to the pure delight of snow I so enjoy the quiet it brings. It falls so softly onto the ground, trees and houses. Like a cashmere blanket – luxurious and cosy. Enveloping us all with this delicious permission to stay in, sit by the fire, read, write, slow down, relax.
How about you dear reader? Enjoy this moment wherever you are!
Love this blog! It made me smile to think of my childhood and sledding down the hills. I so appreciate the quiet beauty of snow. Snow makes the world beautiful for a day or two. Of course, having not to sit in the traffic for hours as so many others did was really nice as well.
